Who are we?

DRC´s Global Advocacy Unit sits within the Department of Partnerships, Advocacy and External Relations (PAER). The Global Advocacy Unit is the custodian, convener, and coordinator for advocacy in DRC and responsible for the roll out of the Global Advocacy Strategy. The Global Advocacy Unit is responsible for setting the advocacy strategic direction and goals, in line with DRC´s organizational strategic priorities, including the broader departmental strategy and DRC´s Global Strategy. The Global Advocacy Unit is a global unit, positioned to engage with policy and decision makers both in Denmark and around the world and within the UN and other regional and multilateral organizations.

About the job

The Global Advocacy Advisor, as a member of the Global Advocacy Unit, develops and promotes a consistent and cohesive voice on DRC´s key policy asks and recommendations with the intention of elevating and amplifying DRC´s evidenced based advocacy at the national, regional and global levels. This role includes providing strategic advocacy advice, coordination, internal support, external engagement and influencing elements. It also works with the other members of the Global Advocacy Unit and expert colleagues across the organization to develop positions and policy recommendations informed by DRC’s programmatic and thematic work across contexts and identities opportunities to disseminate these to relevant policy makers and other stakeholders, such as institutional donors.

Key responsibilities including:

  • Leading on the coordination of data and evidence for advocacy,including through the coordination of the digital Global Advocacy Hub (soon to be launched) and developing data-backed global advocacy positions based on DRC´s flagship report the Global Displacement Forecast, that uses data modelling to predict displacement crises.
  • Leading on advocacy coordination for the following three policy areas contained within the Global Advocacy Strategy, in close collaboration with relevant Programme colleagues: climate, conflict and displacement nexus; humanitarian, development and peacebuilding nexus, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
  • Identifying policy agendas relevant to DRC´s priority advocacy themes and in support of the head of unit, providing advice for DRC Executive Management on DRC´s added value and opportunities for engagement on advocacy policy agendas to achieve DRC´s goals.
  • Supporting the coordination of country and regional specific advocacy, including as it related to unfolding emergencies which DRC is responding to.
  • Building relationships with stakeholders, targets, and allies, with special emphasis on diverse civil society and refugee led networks, and
  • Supporting fundraising, communications, and marketing efforts as needed

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have a minimum of 7 years’ experience in similar or complementary roles with a country, regional, global, or thematic focus. You have a demonstrated commitment to addressing the root causes of forced displacement, responding to emergencies, and/or ensuring access to protection and durable solutions for displaced populations.

Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required

  • Master’s degree in international relations or a similar field
  • Expert knowledge in at least one of DRC´s priority advocacy themes, namely: Protection, Inclusion, Access, Externalization, Displacement and Durable Solutions.
  • Experience in influencing, representation, and external communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze policy and strategically engage on advocacy policy agendas.
  • Strong advisory, coordination, teamwork, and collaboration skills.
  • Familiar with the work of civil society, non-governmental organizations, the United Nations, institutional donors, and/or political structures.

Desirable

  • Experience in working with DRC priority advocacy policy agendas including, 1, Humanitarian Development and Peacebuilding Nexus/Triple nexus; 2, Climate, Conflict and Displacement Nexus and 3, The Sustainable Development Goals
  • Experience working alongside displacement affected populations, conflict affected and marginalized populations

Contract length: A temporary Maternity Leave Contract till 31 July 2025

The position is a temporary maternity leave cover contract

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the agreement between DRC the AC collective agreement. The position is at “fuldmægtig” level. This is a national position for which local terms and conditions apply.
