Climate and Development Consultant – REnew Pacific
Duration: Short Term (3 months, with possibility of extension)
Location: Australia or Pacific Islands
Reports To: Partnerships & Portfolio Lead

REnew Pacific is an AU$75M program over 4.5 years. It aims to scale and expand on the critical lessons learned in the DFAT-funded Business Partnerships Platform (BPP) pilot to support DFAT and t he Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific (AIFFP) to address climate infrastructure mitigation, adaptation and resilience among Pacific states and help Australia be the climate infrastructure partner of choice in the Pacific.
Responsibilities of the Consultant
Under the guidance and direction of the Partnerships & Portfolio Lead, the Climate and Development Consultant will:
Project Portfolio and Country Planning:
- Support the management of the pipeline and portfolio of REnew Pacific projects and partnerships across the Pacific, in accordance with grant agreements and the REnew Pacific Grant Management Framework
- Support the development of REnew Pacific multi-year country plans through participation in in-country consultations with government, industry and community organisations, conducting research, and drafting reports
- Support the Partnerships and Portfolio Lead and Partnerships Broker in the identification and pursuit of partnership and project opportunities
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with providers and suppliers of technical solutions for renewable energy in Australia and the Pacific, including to ensure Pacific and/or Timor-Leste based firms and personnel participate in project development, design and delivery where possible
- Support REnew Pacific communications and public diplomacy activities including to frame and detail partnership and portfolio level stories and lessons learned
- Support program guidance, selection processes and partnership peer learning opportunities
- Contribute to program level reporting, analysis, and work planning
- Contribute to partner support activities including training and capacity building.
Other
- Travel locally and internationally, as required.
- Any other tasks requested by the Partnerships and Portfolio Lead, as appropriate to the incumbent's experience and qualifications.
Due to the evolving nature of our program, it is possible that the incumbent may be expected to undertake duties that fall outside the remit of their original Terms of Reference as reasonably required to ensure the ongoing success of the program.
Reporting Requirements
This role reports into Partnerships & Portfolio Lead. Reporting requirements may include but are not limited to:
- Attendance at team meetings, other requested meetings and regional meetings (e.g. townhalls).
Minimum Education and Experience Required
- A degree in engineering, energy systems, natural resource management, international relations or other relevant disciplines or equivalent level of experience.
- Highly developed information management and analytical skills, evidence-based judgement, ability to prioritise, and work calmly under pressure.
- Demonstrated experience in international development, climate change policy, environmental management, economics, or related field
- Knowledge of renewable energy projects and systems, with a focus on the Pacific is highly desirable
- Ability to work autonomously with limited supervision, to work to deadlines, and to balance competing priorities.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills with demonstrated experience in synthesizing information and writing technical reports
- Commitment to diversity and inclusion, particularly in a cross-cultural context
