Job Description

Chemonics seeks a WILD Fund (Grants) Manager for the USAID/Southern Africa Countering Wildlife Crime (CWC) Activity. The purpose of the five-year Countering Wildlife Crime activity will be to reduce threats to and protect biodiversity from wildlife crimes in Southern Africa. The Activity will build on the long history of the USAID Southern Africa Regional Mission in countering wildlife crime (CWC) through partnerships with regional organizations, governments, the private sector, and civil society. Measurable development outcomes include improved coordination between stakeholders, strengthened criminal justice sector capacity, and increased resilience to corruption. The WILD Fund Manager will be responsible for the overall management and execution of grants under contract (GUC) portfolio of the CWC Activity.

This position will be based in Pretoria, South Africa. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people and communities around the world.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage the full lifecycle of CWC’s grants, working to maximize impact of funds and ensuring grantees adhere to technical, administrative, and compliance requirements from sourcing through closeout
  • Assist in in the creation and oversight of policies, practices, and procedures relating to all aspects of local grants
  • In coordination with the technical team, drafts and releases Request for Applications (RFAs) in accordance with technical activity requirements
  • Oversee the entire grant lifecycle, including application evaluation process, negotiation and award, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and close-out
  • Review grant budget estimates in conjunction with project finance team to ensure all costs conform with USAID and Chemonics regulations and policies
  • Ensure that all contract-specified related regulatory requirements for grants (including FAR, AIDAR, ADS, CFR, and OMB) are met in a satisfactory and professional manner
  • Work closely with the Operations and WILD Fund Director to strengthen grantees’ financial management and USAID compliance capacity
  • Ensure effective communication between project staff and grant awardees such that suitable technical advice and assistance in the fields of management and sustainability are provided and prepare reports to senior-level technical staff as requested
  • Manage grant program files in accordance with Chemonics’ filing system and maintain tracking systems for submitted applications, application evaluations, grant awards, in-kind grant procurements, and grant payments
  • Supervises the WILD Fund assistants
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Operations and WILD Fund Director

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, international relations, management, business, finance, or relevant field is required.
  • At least five years of professional experience with the design, administration, management, and monitoring of grants under contracts for a USAID or other donor-funded project required
  • Prior experience with large-scale USAID grant management contracts and familiarity with USAID grant management policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and develop working relationships and a high level of trust with public/private organizations
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with culturally diverse staff
  • Experience supervising staff
  • Demonstrated versatility, leadership, and integrity
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
